THE MERCEDES-BENZ G-WAGEN MIGHT BE due to offered as a high-spec SUV limo, but there's one variant that's already been demonstrated to the general public (well, we actually mean "Generals"). This is Merc's G-Wagen Light Armored Patrol Vehicle 6.X Concept that was unveiled at the Eurosatory 2010 defense expo.
Given that it's army-spec, you can only buy it in bulk, but they will all include a steel monocoque with modular ballistic protection (you can replace damaged plates and add underbody armor), a big diesel and the ability to carry 1.3 tons of kit. The LAPV 6.X will hit just over 140kph when pushed, and has battlefield tech like "variable-lift" suspension that can bump up the ride height to 450mm. Basically, this is a G-Wagen with added tattoos and knuckledusters. We like it very much.
