NISSAN 370Z YOUR WORLD IS MINE

THE NISSAN 370Z

THE NISSAN 370Z IS A RARE sight on our roads because Nissan Motor Philippines doesn't officially sell this model on our car market. This is a shame, since the Nissan sports coupe is an example of Pinoy pride---it was penned by Filipino-Canadian car designer Randy Rodriguez. Randy was born to Filipino parents in Canada, where he was also raised. In 1998, at the rite-of-passage age of 21, he was sent to the Philippines to reconnect with his roots.Four years later, he graduated from college and joined Nissan Design America. His love affair with the Japanese carmaker's Z cars spans less than 10 Z models owned---so far. "My brother bought me a 1977 280Z. We modified it, and it is the reason I came to be a car designer
and eventually work for Nissan". Randy recount. "I've had some pretty cool Zs: 240Zs, a 280ZX, a 300ZX, and the 350Z. But I have new favorite for obvious reasons!"

Randy shares his inspiration for the 370Z's sexy curves: "I had all the Z history to draw from, but I looked for non-automotive things to inspire me as well. I was heavily influenced by sharks, and you can see that in the car's beltline---shark profile---and side---shark belly---as well as in the sharp, aggressive detailing. I studied athletes, especially sprinters, with their powerful, muscular bodies that have great stance while being lean and agile.
" For those who also want to design the next Japanese sports-car icon, Randy has words of advice: "If you want to be an automotive designer, you should study at a school that offers Transportation Design." he encourages. "One common misconception is that studying engineering is the path to car design. If you want to be a car designer, you need to study design.
